Peter Wyatt's notes from the February edition of the Pitcombe News

HADSPEN VILLAGE HALL

2008 should be a very exciting year in the life of the Village Hall and I would like to start by wishing everyone a very Happy & Peaceful New Year and thanking you for all your support in 2007. Last November we held our AGM in the Hobhouse Studio Theatre at Bruton School for Girls, generously offered by Mr Burrough. There were no nominations from the floor for the election of Trustees and as the present Committee were all willing to stand again, Peter Wyatt, Willie Constantine, Mike Taylor, Fran Madelin and Liz Thomas were unanimously re-elected to join the nominated representatives of the User Groups as follows-
Hadspen Short Mat Bows Club John Knight
Hadspen Wine Club Ken Chamberlain
Pitcombe Parish Council Jenny Elliott
Women’s Institute Carole Wyatt

This will make up the management committee of the Hall for 2008 in accordance with the 1937 Trust Deed then at the first Management Committee meeting following the AGM the officers were re-elected as follows-
Chairman Peter Wyatt
Vice Chairman Mike Taylor
Treasurer Willie Constantine
Secretary Carole Wyatt
Jim Linden, Connie Earl and Rob Comer were again co-opted onto the
Committee for a further term.

I am also delighted to say that we have again successfully met the standard of Hallmark One. This award for Charity administration and management is valid for a further three years. I am pleased to report that the Gourmet Raffle was a great success and I should like to thank all those who generously supported the event also Jean Constantine for all her help and enthusiasm.Unfortunately as I write the weather is holding up progress on the new village hall but I hope that with the Xmas break now over and hopefully with an improvement in the weather the builders will be in a position to get the roof on. If you wish to check the progress of the build without getting your boots muddy, do log on to HYPERLINK

which David Jury kindly keeps up to date with photographs.

On financial matters I am pleased to report that just before Christmas we were very grateful to be awarded a grant of £7,000 by South Somerset District Council Community Fund towards Phase 2, the new access and car park. Our thanks also to the Parish Council for their continued support of Phase 2. An application has now been submitted to Awards for All for help towards this phase.

Finally I should like to pay tribute to the late Mrs Daphne Horsfall who throughout her life was not only an enthusiastic supporter of the Village Hall but looked after it for many years as did her mother before her. Daphne served on the hall committee and was a leading light in the pantomimes which were held for many years. She will be sadly missed
by everyone and I am particularly sad that she will not see the new hall.
